29 injured in aerial firing in Karachi on New Year Celebration

The cities of Karachi faced serious injuries of at least 29 persons, mostly women and children, with the New Year celebrations marked by all-year-round aerial fire within the area.

These incidents were reported from various parts of the city, including Liaquatabad, Tariq Road, Shah Faisal, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Azizabad, and Korangi. 3 people were injured in Liaquatabad as a result of aerial firing. On the side of both Tariq Road and Shah Faisal, there occurred cases leaving two women injured. Two of the injured happened to be in Orangi Town while the other two are in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. New Year’s night’s celebratory fire injured a child in Azizabad. The two localities- Gulzar-e-Hijri and Korangi No.6 reported three cases of bullet injury each. The report for New Year’s night also included three people in Lyari and Aram Bagh, as well as two people in Agra Taj, Malir Kala Board, Tipu Sultan, Ferozeabad, and Alfalah Dastagir being bullet injured.

Injured patients were promptly carried by rescue teams to the nearest hospital for treatment. The public has also been urged not to take part in such activities for their well-being during celebrations.

Earlier, AIG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, while issuing a warning against aerial firing in celebration of the coming year 2025, said that he would register cases under the attempted murder section of the penal code for those involved in aerial firing, especially on New Year’s Eve. Last year, around 31 people suffered injuries linked to aerial firing on New Year’s Eve in Karachi, which resulted in several arrests.
