It was a shocking day today as Lahore and many other cities of Punjab had seismic shocks of 5.1 Richter hit the earth and all rushed out of their houses and buildings to be safe.
The tremors were felt in Jhelum, Kamalia, Khanewal, Chichawatni, Bhalwal, Chiniot, and Hafizabad as well. The epicenter was near Kharian at a depth of 15 kilometers.
There are currently no updates on reports related to casualties or damages due to the earthquake as per the preliminary report of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The administration is actively going through buildings for likely structural damages confirmed by the director general of PDMA.

This is following the recent instances of seismic activity in the area. Last month’s minor earthquake of 5.2 magnitudes shook parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, leaving the locals in panic. The epicenter of that quake was in the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan at a distance of 212 kilometers deep. Even two weeks ago, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake already hit several regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistan is on the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This is the reason for several earthquakes, making it seismically very active. The Indian plate pushes northward into the Eurasian plate, making a large part of South Asia, including Pakistan, seismically active.
