The LHC has become active in addressing the worsening smog crisis, which has been affecting the people of Punjab. Justice Shahid Karim ordered the government of Punjab to design an important work-from-home policy for schools and offices to contribute to fighting the deteriorating air quality.
During the hearing about the smog, he highlighted that much has not been done until now to take action despite mentioning the immediacy of something very important and that what has been done so far has not yielded encouraging results. He called into question certain administrative inefficiencies, such as the frequent transfers of Deputy Commissioners.

He also added that some construction activities that contribute towards air pollution should be suspended and that a full-fledged transport inspection policy should be prepared with specific data-keeping.
In addition to the problems, Smog Commission members stated that electric bus depots in the Township have space cut from trees that were claimed to be sold illegally. Justice Karim demanded an inquiry into the illegal cutting of trees, punishing the offenders in the court. The Punjab Secretary for Transport has been called to explain the issue.
