Keeping pace with the changing times, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) appointed Dr. Zahid ur Rahman Khokhar, an eminent and seasoned Islamic banking expert, as the Director of Islamic Finance Policy.
The appointment of Dr. Zahid ur Rahman Khokhar by the banking regulatory authority is possibly aimed at accelerating the transition of Riba-based banking into Islamic banking by the deadline of 2028. He had accumulated fairly long experience in his area during the time he worked with different global Islamic institutions.
He is a member of the apex global forums in Islamic banking and finance, and the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

He is associated with the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management. Previously, he worked as an Islamic banking expert with the IMF, the Central Bank of Oman, and the State Bank of Pakistan. Dr. Zahid earned his doctoral degree in Islamic banking and finance from the International Islamic University of Malaysia.
He has also attended and studied in such institutions as the University of Cambridge, Harvard Business School Executive Education, MIT Sloan Executive Education, Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance-London, Lahore School of Economics, Center of Islamic Economics- Karachi, etc.
