Riyadh Metro Launches, Transforming Public Transportation

Riyadh Metro was inaugurated for use by the citizens of Saudi Arabia at the official opening of the rapid transit system in the Kingdom, with the hallmark of achieving an advanced milestone in public transport development in the country. A journey with 6 lines stretching around 176 km with 85 stations proves ideal to make travel effortless yet efficient for residents and visitors.

Once operational, the Blue (1), Yellow (4), and Purple (6) lines, as part of a soft launch, link attributes such as Al Orouba, Batha, King Khalid International Airport Road, and other major intersections. The Red (2) and Green (5) lines are set to be opened on December 15, while the opening of the Orange (3) line is scheduled for January 5, 2025.

Pricing of the ticket covers two classes of travel, i.e. standard class tickets and first-class tickets. Standard class prices are SR.4 for a two-hour pass, SR.20 for a three-day pass, SR.40 for seven days, and SR.140 for 30 days. The first class is SR.10, SR.50, SR.100, and SR.350, respectively, for the same duration.

The purchase of tickets can easily be done via the Darb application which can be downloaded through all Apple and Android devices. This application allows for journey planning, QR code ticketing, live bus tracking, on-demand bus services, and all other services that connect to the metro system. The metro will be integrated as well with the Riyadh Bus Project considering their relevant benefits for traveling around the city.

Inaugurated on November 27, 2024, by King Salman, the line would be the public transport system of the present-day financial and cultural hub of the Kingdom, rendering its services for travel to and from both residents and visitors.
