Pakistan Railways Earns Over Rs.33 Billion in Five Months.

Pakistan Railways has made a great deal of achievement by earning more than Rs. 33 billion in the first five months of the financial year 2024-25. Such a phenomenal achievement has been possible due to the consistent efforts of the Railways Department toward strategic revenue generation despite all odds. Revenue generation included both passenger and freight services which crossed all initial targets.

The current year’s earnings show an increase of 14% over the earnings during the same period last year that procured Rs. 29 billion by Pakistan Railways, an increase of Rs. 4 billion. The reason behind this increased performance is the better efficiency in operations and revenue generation strategies.

The department had a record year in 2023-24 when it earned Rs. 88 billion, compared to the previous year, which was at Rs. 63 billion, resulting in a growth of 40%. This increase is evidently a sign of the financial health and growth trend of the organization.

Pakistan Railways has achieved an earnings target higher than the original one of Rs. 73 billion by earning Rs. 47 billion from passenger trains, Rs. 28 billion from goods vehicles, and more than Rs. 13 billion from land and other sources. The aim of the Department is to achieve Rs. 1 Trillion in the next Financial Year.

In addition to the financial achievements, Pakistan Railways has continued making strides in safety. Among the infrastructure improvement projects, the Main Line-I (ML-I) project, is expected to commence in the following year, which would hold great promises to the future prosperity of the department. Following successful measures to keep several train accidents down to only eight minor incidents, all without casualties, improvements are being attributed to better monitoring of railway tracks and efforts to deter trespassing at unmanned crossings.
