Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja told the Senate Standing Committee on IT and Telecom that discussions with Elon Musk to bring down his Starlink services to Pakistan are in swing, in order to combat slow internet access. She said while there are technical issues, the internet closures occur only for security reasons.
Key Points:
The government is exploring means through which to minimize the impact of these outages on the IT sector and is negotiating with Starlink to offer internet services in Pakistan.
By the auction of the next 5G spectrum in April 2025, it is expected that infrastructure-related problems leading to internet issues will be alleviated.
Starlink, which registered itself with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in December 2021, has completed all its preconditions for launching its satellite-based internet services and is waiting for regulatory approval.

Shaza mentioned that Starlink’s license has been delayed because of its disregard for the strict technical and regulatory framework established by the government.
These things will contribute toward a better future for Pakistan’s IT sector. Are you looking forward to better internet connectivity with these initiatives?
