It is stated that to address the issue of pollen allergies by the Prime Minister’s orders, stakeholders would be removing between 80,000 and 100,000 wild mulberry trees and would restrict parthenium sales at flower shops across the city.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharat, the PM’s National Coordinator on Health, indicated that wild mulberry trees are the most abundant and thus the greatest source of allergies. Hence, the removal of these trees would take effect in phases. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) already has one million eco-friendly trees ready under the initiative to eliminate allergens. Between 300,000 and 400,000 more are in the pipeline to replace prior paper mulberry trees this mid-year.

Special allergen control measures were also put in place at F-9 Park and a strict ban on parthenium plants in flower shops was proposed. Parthenium, a toxic weed, is one of the most important agents of respiratory allergies, as per Dr. Bharat. The Directorate of Municipal Administration has been directed to implement the ban to curb its use in floral arrangements.
