Iran said that the Syrians themselves must be the ones who would decide the future of Syria, and nobody else should meddle or interfere with that. This was after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled Damascus because of chiseled anti-regime groups’ supply to the capital, resulting in the collapse of the Baath Party regime which had held power since 1963.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry just now underscored Syria’s unity, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity, calling for the immediate cessation of military conflicts and the initiation of national dialogue involving all segments of Syrian society concerning coming decisions on the future of Syria.

Iran also pointed out the closer historical tie between the two countries and expressed hope that a wise and forward-looking approach would ensure continuity in this bond. The ministry stressed the need to secure all Syrian citizens and foreign nationals, concerning the sanctity of religious sites and diplomatic and consular facilities as they relate to international legal principles.
Iran is firm on establishing security and stability within Syria while moving towards further consultations with all influential parties across the region.
