The day commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948. It coincides this year with the 76th anniversary of the UDHR, that most important document enshrining inalienable rights for all human beings, irrespective of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other views, national or social origin, property status, birth or any other status.
The UDHR was adopted in Paris on December 10, 1948, as the first international commitment to universal fundamental human rights. It was a cornerstone of the modern edifice which would become international standards for human rights.”
