The Karachi Administration banned pillion riding in the central and southern districts of the city following security concerns. This notification, issued on December 10, restrains public gatherings, rallies, and processions in District South for two days.
Besides restricting pillion riding, the notification has very much prohibited gatherings of above five people in the notified areas. Measures are intended to avoid disturbance to the public order because miscreants have been causing threats because of their activities.

It followed the same restriction earlier placed in Karachi’s Central District on December 9, and under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, this extends to prohibiting the use of pillion riding, the carrying of arms, and a whole lot more that could possibly jeopardize the safety of the residents. Police have already apprehended 15 persons for disobeying the pillion riding ban.
