LHC Addresses Petition to Enhance Internet Speed in Pakistan

Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal presided over the hearing of the petition that was filed by the Judicial Activism Panel against the backdrop that Pakistan is now regarded as the worst in the globe concerning internet speed. The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a notice to federal authorities and relevant government departments on a petition that asked to increase internet speed across Pakistan.

The petition cited World Population Review data, according to which Pakistan was ranked 198th globally, behind countries such as Palestine, Bhutan, and Iraq. It also asked the court to direct authorities to improve internet speed and remove restrictions on Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

The court has called for an answer to be given from the relevant authorities. As per the World Population Review report, the average mobile internet speed in Pakistan is 19.59 Mbps, while that of broadband averages 15.52 Mbps. UAE leads the world in mobile broadband internet in both aspects, followed by Singapore and Qatar.

A lot of users in Pakistan complain of poor internet and very inconsistent internet speed, thus inhibiting their browsing, downloading, or sharing media. Such a report indicates that technological advances can improve internet speed across the country.
