The citizens of Pakistan have encountered yet another setback with an increase in electricity tariffs all over the territory, making matters worse with soaring inflation. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced an increase of 20 paisas per unit under the first quarterly adjustment of the current fiscal year. This increase is to be effective from December 2024 and excludes lifeline and prepaid consumers.

This follows an adjustment of Rs1.74 per unit, which was collected from consumers in the month of November to cover the last quarter of the previous financial year. It is observed that the prices of petroleum products have already taken an upward turn; thus, adding this to the financial burden households will have across the country.
