The former Secretary of the Punjab Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti got bail from an anti-corruption court in a case impeaching allegations against him of false recruitment. Judge Muhammad Faisal Ahmed approved Bhatti’s bail in two surety bonds of Rs 500,000 each, notwithstanding opposition by the prosecution which contended that Bhatti had violated merit and appointed people of his choice through fraud.

This was a sequel to the Lahore High Court ruling that earlier granted bail to Bhatti in a different corruption reference relating to developmental projects. A two-member bench of the court headed by Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry had approved his bail against surety bonds of Rs 10 million.
Like Bhatti, who also served as principal secretary to former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, has to undergo scrutiny in multiple corruption cases. Approval of bail would be a good milestone for him in his legal battles, where investigations are still ongoing.
