The verbatim replica of their parts is the UN Security Council, as stated by one party, on Tuesday in all of joining party members’ full accedence to the 974 Disengagement Agreement on the “area of separation” in Syria to call for calm and reduced tensions. According to a press statement, Council members reaffirmed themselves to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity. Council members called for all states to respect those principles while also urging Syria to consider the neighboring influences as to whether or not it is prudent to act or interfere in matters that threaten mutual security.
The Council commended the support given to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force or UNDOF and its respective mandate while encouraging parties to refrain from any activities that might put in jeopardy peacekeepers and their infrastructure. The Council stressed the importance of the implementation of an inclusive, Syrian-led, and Syrian-owned political process as called for in UN Resolution 2254.

The statement underlined the support for the role of UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen as facilitator of such a process towards the meeting of Syrian legitimate aspirations, protection of their rights, and enabling them to determine their futures peacefully, independently and democratically. The Council has equally reiterated the need to fight terrorism in Syria, stressing how significant it is to prevent groups like Daesh/ISIS from rebuilding their capacities or seeking safe haven within the country.
This explicit reaffirmation of the imperative of human rights and international humanitarian law disregarded access to humanitarian aid and excluded covering the citizens from the obligations of the international community above. Finally, it pointed out that it is required to maintain the stability of the region while also protecting the personnel who are working for peace and humanitarian purposes.
