Prime Minister Orders Action Against Human Trafficking

The Prime Minister has called for strict action against those who engaged in human trafficking and duped innocent Pakistanis into moving abroad through illegal means. He has also solicited a report on all incidents over the past year, at the international level, that relate to Pakistanis.

The Prime Minister expressed strong discontentment over the slow pace of offensive action taken against such elements after the boat tragedy that had occurred recently in 2023. He stressed that urgent measures were to be taken. He directed that action be taken against the very officers who are responsible for delaying measures regarding human trafficking.

The Prime Minister, in a meeting that he chaired relating to the drowning of Pakistanis in Greece, claimed the lives of 262 Pakistanis. He said that such things stained Pakistan in the eyes of the world and called for stronger measures to curtail this crime.

The Prime Minister deplored that such an incident recurs owing to lackadaisical action during earlier times and termed it a matter of serious soul-searching. He also ordered implementation without delay of IBMS (Integrated Border Management System) for tracking and prevention of illegal migration.

The Prime Minister was told during the meeting on what steps have been taken so far to check human trafficking. It was said that 174 cases were filed in court, 4 managed to reach a conviction. However, the Prime Minister was dissatisfied with the slow pace in dealing with the beasts behind this crime; hence it would take more than that.

In addition, the Prime Minister called for greater cooperation with international organizations in order to avert such incidents in the future. Federal ministers Khawaja Asif, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Ahsan Khan Cheema, Ataullah Tarar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ihsan Afzal, and senior officials were present in the meeting as well.
