Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi Visits Riyadh, Strengthens Ties

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited a college in Riyadh on Wednesday, where he praised advancements in higher education with regard to collaboration in the field. He even visited officials in the Saudi Directorate of Passports for a review of facilities, according to Radio Pakistan.

Indeed, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have now beefed up their bilateral ties, signing more than 30 memorandums of understanding (MOU) and agreements with a value of $2.8 billion over different sectors of the industry, agriculture, information technology, and energy.

On this tour, Naqvi also conferred with Dr. Ali Al Duaij, the Director General of King Fahd Security College (KFSC), to discuss the possibility of study tours and training programs for graduates of both countries. Naqvi inspected several colleges’ departments, recommending illusion at the higher education standards achieved in the institution. He also paid his visit to the Forensic Science Institute in the college. The report notes that Naqvi was up to date with the offerings in the college: Master’s degrees in artificial intelligence, and  leadership management, along with security studies, as well as scholarships for international students.

Naqvi praised the five-year strategy and the master’s programs offered by the college, citing their focus on needs relevant to the current era. Last year, Saudi Arabia said it would increase scholarships for Pakistani students and create an exchange program for teachers to research the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Naqvi also visited the Saudi Directorate of Passports, where he was welcomed by the Acting Director General, Dr. Saleh Al Murabba. Naqvi inspected the various departments during his visit and the call center. He also reviewed the advanced technology at the Directorate and measures to streamline passport collection and issuance and combat passport forgery through e-gates.

He puts to view the possible advantages of Saudi collaboration: “The coordination of efforts with the Saudi Directorate of Passports really augurs well in simplifying and securing the passport system in Pakistan. Mutual cooperation will make easier citizens’ services while combating fraud.” A call center will be quick to set up in Pakistan based on the Saudi Directorate of Passports model. Such a partnership can help detect passport forgeries and document changes within Pakistan.

Earlier, Naqvi met with Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif in Riyadh where the two leaders pledged to improve security cooperation. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan share long historical relationships based on economic, military, and cultural ties. Naqvi’s visit was after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official two-day trip to Saudi Arabia earlier this month where he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The earlier decision was taken in December when Saudi Arabia again deposited $3 billion in Pakistan for an additional year, which has kept the economy of Pakistan supported, the State Bank of Pakistan confirmed.

Naqvi also visited the Saudi Directorate of Passports, where Acting Director General Dr. Saleh Al Murabba received him. During his visit, Naqvi toured across various departments and inspected the call center. He reviewed the Directorate’s advanced technology and discussed measures to streamline the process of passport collection and issuance and to combat passport forgery through the e-gates.

The cooperation of the Saudi General Directorate of Passports “assists Pakistan in simplifying and securing the passport system,” Naqvi emphasized. Mutual cooperation will ease public services and prevent fraud”. Naqvi further added that a call center would be set up in Pakistan replicating what Saudi has done in establishing its call center within the Saudi Directorate of Passports. Such an initiative would help assist in detecting possible passport forgeries and document alterations within Pakistan.

Earlier, Naqvi met the Saudi Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif in Riyadh, where both leaders pledged to strengthen their cooperation on security matters. The two countries have had an enduring relationship in terms of economic, military, and cultural ties. Naqvi’s visit comes right after the two-day official trip of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia earlier this month in which he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier in December, Saudi Arabia extended another year for the deposit of $3 billion with Pakistan, which is helping the economy of Pakistan, confirmed the State Bank of Pakistan.
