The American Relief Act of 2025 had bipartisan support both in the US Senate and in the House of Representatives, and outgoing Majority Leader Schumer annotated the bill on provisions for keeping the government open, caring for the Americans hit with disasters, and aiding the farmers.

The bill includes $10 billion earmarked for American farmers, and it carries $100 billion for disaster relief. This comes just days after another failed compromise agreement, derailed by President-elect Donald Trump, with input from his top advisory board-which included even more general names such as Elon Musk. The final bill excluded, among other features, provisions for a pediatric cancer research fund; congressional pay raises; crackdown on “junk fees” and, restrictions on US investment in China. However, Congress approval went through separately for children’s cancer research funding.
According to the White House, US President Joe Biden is expected to sign the slimmed-down bill on Saturday, provoking federal agencies to stay open. However, the bill did not raise the ceiling on debt, a contentious area among the Republicans.
