Preparations have now all been finalized for the start of the new Gwadar International Airport on January 1, 2025. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate special inaugural flights from the city of Karachi and Islamabad, according to the new facility.
PIA’s spokespeople confirmed the Karachi flight will go via an ATR aircraft while the Islamabad flight will fly via an Airbus 320. Asked for both flights to welcome them with a water salute. The first flight is set to be inaugurated by Federal Minister for Defense and Aviation Khawaja Asif.

Constructed for Rs. 55 billion, it is a flagship project of CPEC-the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Its runway is built as per international standards and is now capable of taking larger aircraft like Airbus 380.
Flight operations were suspended temporarily in February 2024 as a result of a 16-hour rainfall. The airport is now fit to offer both domestic and international flights.
