FBR update Customs General Orders

FBR has withdrawn the Customs General Orders addressing the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigations (Customs), aggravating functions and jurisdiction.

FBR Rescinds Customs General Orders

The Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigations (Customs) has had its functions, jurisdiction, and all Customs General Orders, instructions, and directions withdrawn from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The decision has been made under the powers conferred by section 223 of the Customs Act, 1969.

Key Orders Rescinded.

The canceled directives also contain Customs General Orders numbers 05 of 2012, dated March 27, 2012, and 01 of 2015, dated May 28, 2015, among others. Besides, any other separate instruction or direction issued by the Board or its subordinate organs with respect to the functions and scope of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigations (Customs) has also been nullified.

Implications

It is believed that the FBR’s intervention in question will have far-reaching effects on the functioning and territorial jurisdiction of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigations (Customs). However, it is still unclear how this will affect the entire workings and implementation of customs laws in Pakistan.
