On the Kalar Kahar Salt Range along the M2 Motorway from Lahore to Islamabad, four companies have completed a feasibility study for a proposed 10-kilometer tunnel.
This effort of the officials is to mitigate accidents, which have been growing, along this route.

It is expected that the construction of the tunnel may improve safety considerably, as well as reduce travel time by about 25 to 35 minutes between the two cities.
General Manager of NHA has confirmed that the four companies conducted this study, adding that efforts are in progress to finalize the project consultant.
It may be recalled that the first proposal for the tunnel was brought up in a steering committee meeting.
