Livestock are being provided to rural women and the Punjab government announced an innovative initiative in this regard. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif revealed the Rs2 billion package aimed at the financial support of 11,000 destitute rural females living in 12 districts of South Punjab. This will provide these women with free cow and buffalo animals enabling them to rear livestock and build a sustainable livelihood for their families.

Implementation will be done in the districts of Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, and Kot Addu. Furthermore, there are 80,000 cattle farmers across Punjab to benefit from this program. They will receive interest-free loans worth Rs27,000 for each animal with convenient installments.
In addition, this initiative will prepare 400,000 cattle heads for meat export, which would be a significant contribution to the economic development of the region. A cattle identity traceability system aims to improve livestock management, with very affordable free services to farmers such as artificial insemination, quality test of feed, and other support measures.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif maintained that the program will promote dignified employment for rural women while enhancing milk and meat production for local consumption and export.
