The 25th anniversary of the returning Panama Canal has been celebrated with a ceremony that was attended by the highest-ranking political leaders of Panama on Tuesday. President Jose Raul declared during the ceremony that the Panama Canal would be forever in the dominion of Panama. The Panama Canal is exclusively under Panama control,” he declared. “Rest assured, it will remain in our hands forever.”

This event was made more poignant and personal with the death of former US president Jimmy Carter, who made the 1999 agreement for the handover.
