PM Shehbaz Sharif Confident in Achieving Economic Targets

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif looks forward to achieving the economic targets of the government based on the limitlessness of the economic team’s efforts within the next six months.

In a Wednesday cabinet meeting, the prime minister stated that remittances during the first five months of the current fiscal year have reached a record $15 billion and will, by the end of the year, total around another $20 billion, bringing the complete figure for the fiscal year to $35 billion. He maintained that they have fought hard and devised ways to make macroeconomic stability a reality amidst challenges and oppositional moves to destabilize the government.

PM Shehbaz expressed this hope for 2025 when he made his New Year greetings. That 2025, he said, would bring advancement and prosperity to Pakistan, and he wished for positive steps toward redress of economic, political, and security crises facing the world in the year ahead in 2024. The laurels were given to the previously launched “Uraan Pakistan” five-year economic plan as a milepost in the future of Pakistan by the Prime Minister. He pointed out that there was a requirement for a rigorous and relentless work impetus to achieve the objectives within that plan, maintaining that export-led growth would form the bedrock for economic development.

PM Shehbaz appreciated the hard work of Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and other cabinet members. He saluted Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and the FBR Chairman for raising an additional Rs 72 billion under the advance-to-tax ratio, which enabled the government to meet its December 2024 tax revenue targets.

“The significant progress being made in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) digitization project, funded by the Bill Gates Foundation to the tune of $6 million,” the prime minister said. Early results included a 39% decrease in inspection times on containers and an 89% increase in relief for businesses.

Shehbaz Sharif further narrated to have achieved an absolute demise of sugar smuggling through the borders with Afghanistan because of the passionate work of Minister of Industries and Production Rana Tanvir Hussain with the other government institutions and the Army Chief.

He maintained the transparency of government even stating that no scandal has been done during the course of the administration running for the last nine months. On security-related issues, the prime minister stated that all law enforcement agencies would be devoted to thwarting all tactics of terrorism and maintaining the peace of the nation.
