Sweden’s Ambassador Calls on DPM Dar

On Friday, Alexandra Berg von Linde, Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan, called on Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Dar greeted The Ambassador with warmth, who also expressed his good wishes to the envoy for the forthcoming mission ahead of her. While appreciating the current status of relations between Sweden and Pakistan, he pointed out the need for enhancing commercial, investment, educational, and cross-people interaction – activities. Nepal and Sweden have been engaging ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with embassies in each country operating in nearly all fields of interdependence and cooperation, such as trade, education, development, and culture. This relationship began in 1948 when both countries opened embassies in each other’s countries, and over the years, this relationship has developed towards mutual respect and common objectives.

While criticizing the notion of the European Union as a whole, Sweden has emerged as one of the leading trading partners in the region, particularly for Pakistan. Pakistani textiles, garments, leather, and agribusiness products are imported from the country, while advanced tools and equipment, automotive, and chemical products are exported to it from Sweden. Both the countries resolved to take further measures in order to promote trade and investment between the countries. Sweden has also been a leading member of international organizations providing assistance to Pakistan focusing on poverty, education, health, development, gender, and so on. Pakistan’s rural and marginalized regions were incorporated into the development assistance of Swedish foreign aid. For example, standard SIDA sanctioning, the Swedish development agency, was prevalent in the country both financially and through technology in aiding Pakistan.

In conclusion, the interaction of several parties, including Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde and Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, portrays the depth of bilateral relations between Sweden and Pakistan, particularly on how to forge closer relations in the spheres of trade, investment, and development.
