Rising Death Toll in Kurram Clashes

Alas, the toll keeps rising, and visiting 30 is one more death recorded from clashes that have not ceased: of these, 12 deaths have happened within the last 24 hours. The gunfight between the two warring groups has blown cities like Kalu Kunj, Badshah Kot, and Bagan Bazar into bits. Besides the normal death count, the havoc wreaked by the recent violence has already led to the destruction of great magnitude. Reports say armed people would burn several homes, killing innocent women, children, and the elderly. Hence, on the official end, many of these wounded receive treatment in local hospitals. It is confirmed that there are still about 37 of these critical.

Also, another section of the death in Lower Kurram added to the increasing casualties-a shooting targeting a passenger van that resulted from firing by unidentified gunmen on the moving vehicles going to Kurram from Peshawar, killing 38 instantly. This pitiable event brings the number of people dead to 45. The Deputy Commissioner and DPO Kurram are currently at the site, and the victims were taken to the nearest medical facility. Investigations have been initiated, and a preliminary report has been submitted to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The Chief Minister has held high-level meetings via video link to analyze the security situation of the district. The provincial delegation met with the affected families in Parachinar, composed of Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam, Information Adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, and Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry.

The Toori tribesmen announced this in a three-day mourning period for the deceased. The authorities are still keeping a close watch over the situation. They called for immediate measures to be taken to restore peace and protect the vulnerable population of the district.
