Wednesday, an intermediate administration officer confirmed that the acting Afghan Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Khalil-ur-Rehman Haqqani was killed inside his ministry building in a central Kabul Explosion. Zabihullah Mujahid, the chief spokesperson of the Taliban administration, said Haqqani was killed in an explosion at the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation in the capital Kabul, but he did not explain anything else, such as the nature of the blast or how many people were affected.

We have received with great sadness the news that this afternoon, the Minister of Refugees of the Islamic Emirate, Alhaji Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani, was martyred in a barbaric attack by the Kharijites (enemies),” Kabul police statement said. Initial information received from Kabul indicated that more victims could be seen as a result of the explosion; several were referred to Kabul hospitals.
Haqqani, age 58, was a senior Taliban leader and brother of the deceased Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of the Haqqani network, which was instrumental in waging the two-decade war of the Taliban against US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan. He is also the judge uncle of the current acting interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani. The incident was also the first ministerial assassination since the Taliban regained power in Kabul in August 2021.
