Airlines with most delays and complaints in 2024

As the pendulum of time swings closer to the midnight hour of 2024, we must review which airline has suffered the most delays, cancellations, and client complaints associated with them. In the end, Tunisair managed to clinch one of AirHelp’s annual rankings, which was at the lowest, showing that it has become the worst-performing global airline this year.

Last among the 109 carriers worldwide was Tunisair, based in Tunisia. Joining Ryanair and Aer Lingus in being part of this worst category was bringing out issues with several low-cost and national airlines. The rankings were done by processing consumer feedback, scoring on-time performance, and claims for disrupted flights.

Tunisair has been famous for quite a long time for its delays and service problems, resulting in this unenvied last position. Other airlines that made it into the bottom 10 include Buzz, a subsidiary of Ryanair, Bulgaria Air, Pegasus Airlines from Turkey, and Air Mauritius.

Many major US airlines did better this year, as they were actually wrecked by domestic travel havoc across the United States this year. United Airlines and American Airlines both ranked among the top five. On the contrary, Delta Air Lines fell from No. 11 to No. 17 due to a technology outage in July that generated over 3,000 complaints.

On the good side, with a 12-place increase in its ranking from last year, Brussels Airlines emerged as the best airline in the world. This transformation relegated Qatar Airways, knocking it down from the top position it had maintained since 2018 to second. Other countries of North America have also shown tremendous improvements, such as Air Transat, which landed at number 36 in the rankings. On the other hand, Alaska Airlines fell more than 30 places to No. 88 this year due to operational problems and the continuing merger agenda.

AirHelp CEO Tomasz Pawliszyn expressed hope that the analysis encourages airlines to heed passenger feedback to improve overall service and customer experience. The rankings are based on data from over 54 countries, collected from January to October 2024, and include flight punctuality, passenger feedback, and the resolution of customer complaints, including lost luggage.
