Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, expressed his sympathy to President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and all the peoples of Africa who seek justice. In fact, during a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa Ronald Lamola in Pretoria, Guterres stated that all those concerned should seek and pursue financial as well as climate justice for Africa.
“Africa suffers more even though it pumps in just a small fraction into the globe’s total emission,” Guterres observed while airing the calls for a 1.4-degree rise in global temperature to avoid the whole crisis from which we are still healing.

The UN senior official underscored the necessity of having financial support for Africa. He declared that world leaders signed a treaty for the future in September when ambitions will now be so elevated in holistic reforms that would focus the efforts of the international financial system to reflect today’s global economy and put precedence on the needs of developing countries.
Guterres reiterated his push for Africa to have two permanent seats in the Security Council. He earlier called on the G20 countries to lead in delivering climate justice in vulnerable countries such as his, which faces a crisis not of their making, in a presentation during the G20 Sherpa meeting at Johannesburg. “Each G20 country does have to do more in reduction of emissions,” he declared.
Emerging from the G20 presidency on December 1, South Africa adopted the theme Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability. Its inaugural G20 meeting was held on Monday with an aim to unify global efforts in tackling the grand challenges facing the entire world.
