The Chinese automotive giant BYD outsmarted US rival Tesla after selling nearly 600,000 battery vehicles between the months of October and December.
According to cumulative annual production and sales results from 2024, Tesla delivered 495,570 electric vehicles (EVs) during the fourth quarter of 2024, while BYD reported 595,413 units sold.

For the entire year, BYD registered a total of 1.76 million EVs slightly behind Tesla’s all-time figure of 1.79 million.
If Tesla manages to increase its EV sales by 5% in the fourth quarter, BYD managed to show 13.1% increase in EV sales for the period.
However, BYD also sold all kinds of vehicles – including plug-in hybrid vehicles and buses – over 4.27 million units in 2024.
