The official opening ceremony of the China Pavilion was held at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan. From November 11 to 22, ten themed days with numerous side events and activities will take place in the pavilion to showcase China’s role in ecological and climate undertakings.
Leadership and Cooperation
In the opening speech, Zhao Yingmin, head of the Chinese delegation and vice minister of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, highlighted China’s ascending role for leading relevance in international ecological coordination. He reassured China of its commitment to reinforcing its cooperation with the rest of the world to build political mutual trust, follow multilateralism, and work toward a common goal of green development.
Emphasize Low Carbon Development
Liu Zhenmin, China’s special representative on climate change, renewed the commitment to climate action as the beacon in Beijing’s national strategy. He underlined that green and low carbon is the significant ways to achieve “a beautiful China.” Then, he added that international communities have universally recognized the country’s achievements in green development.
International Cooperation and Responsibilities
Liu expressed his optimism for COP29 and called on the international community to adhere to the principle of “common but differentiated responsibilities” in taking climate action. He urged the developed countries to honor their commitments through financial support for developing nations toward resilient building against climate hazards.
