“Chinese Spring Festival has been included in UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.” The announcement was made at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage at Asuncion, Paraguay.
This festival, laced with centuries-old traditions and colorful celebrations, heralds the start of the new lunar year in China with family get-togethers, prayers for prosperity, and outdoor festivities. The association marked by such events recognized cultural contributions toward the values of harmony, reflected by human-nature coexistence, social cohesion, sustainable development, and environmental awareness.

The vice Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, Rao Quan, expressed his gratitude over the recognition and described the Spring Festival as a badge of hope and a testimony of China’s deeply rooted cultural heritage. He cited that the Spring Festival promotes family ties, social harmony, and economic and environmental sustainability.
With this listing, China now boasts 44 cultural elements inscribed in the representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The occasion stresses the need to preserve cultural heritage and bursting traditions associated with the Spring Festival.
