The Director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui met with Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, in Kunming, China on the sidelines of the Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Cooperation, which Ahsan Iqbal attended as part of his official visits to China.

This meeting was also attended by key officials such as Li Ming, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation; Shou Hailong, Director-General of CIDCA’s Department of Regional Affairs; Yang Shaocheng, Director of Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office; and Humair, Special Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. Luo expressed to the government of Pakistan his gratitude for having been able over the years to send high-level delegations to China for the purpose of attending this event.

It was also pointed out by Luo that the two countries’ leaderships remained closely in contact and the notable harmony which had been reached at the level of high-level leadership was even quite remarkable. CIDCA, by the way, working with Pakistan to put in place important deals, will also be an avenue for encouraging the joint construction of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects and development cooperation more broadly between Pakistan and China, thus drawing economic benefits for both countries.

In return, Ahsan Iqbal thanked China for providing the opportunity for the regional countries to share and cooperate. He acknowledged China’s leadership in driving the blue economy at the same time, while committing Islamabad to strengthening development cooperation with Beijing in several areas to this effect under BRI and Global Development Initiative (GDI) frameworks, all to build a closer Pakistan-China community with a shared future in the new era.

After the meeting, cooperation documents were signed by Director Luo Zhaohui and Minister Ahsan Iqbal, which include among others, the implementation of the Climate Information and Early Warning System Project in Pakistan.
