Owing to the ongoing cold wave across Pakistan, including Karachi; it will intensify in the second week of January 2025, according to the country’s meteorological department (PMD).
Sardar Sarfaraz, chief meteorologist at the PMD, stated, “Cold may increase in the second week of January.”
The department has forecast light showers in parts of Balochistan from January 3-5, while snowfall and rainfall are expected to be below average in the entire country this winter compared to the last years.

The financial city of Pakistan, Karachi, has already experienced its share of single-digit temperature readings many times this month. Cold waves have also swallowed the other regions as temperatures have dipped below freezing in many areas of Balochistan.
The PMD has forecast mainly cold and dry weather in most parts of the country, with very cold conditions in hilly areas during the morning and night hours on Thursday. Light rain and snow are expected in Kashmir and surrounding hilly areas during the evening and night.
Continuous fog is anticipated in isolated plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh during the morning and night while frost is likely to occur in isolated areas of Islamabad, Pothohar, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the early hours.
