The gas supply to Quetta and the adjacent areas was gravely hampered when the atmospheric temperature dropped down to minus six degrees Celsius resulting in the freezing of the main gas pipeline. According to the SSGC spokesperson, this pipeline, which is eighteen inches wide and located inside Quetta, has frozen, it has greatly affected the Nawan Killi area and its adjoining localities. Areas that further suffered from severe cold weather include Pishin, Kuchlak, Bostan, and Ziarat.
The spokesperson stated that technical teams had been working on the frozen pipeline since 6 AM to restore supply to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, or PMD, has forecast cool, dry weather conditions in almost all parts of the country in the coming 24 hours. Very cold conditions partly cloudy to cloudy are expected across hilly areas. Shallow to moderate fog will occur in patches during the early morning hours for Northeast and South Punjab, as well as Upper Sindh.
According to PMD’s synoptic report, most of the regions are currently dominated by continental air, while a shallow westerly wave persists in flow across the top parts of the country.
In the past 24 hours, most parts of the country have been under cold and dry weather while hilly areas remained very cold and partly cloudy.
