Germany has issued a stark warning, calling the recent undersea cable cut a “wake-up call.” The incident involved the Estlink 2 cable, which connects Finland and Estonia and was disconnected from the grid on Wednesday. This follows two telecommunications cables severed in Swedish territorial waters in the Baltic just over a month ago.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging new EU sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet.” These ships are suspected of causing damage and are seen as a major threat to environmental and security interests in the Baltic Sea. Baerbock stated, “It’s more than difficult to still believe in coincidences. This is an urgent wake-up call for all of us.”
NATO also announced its resolution to strengthen its military presence in response to these events.
