Government Presents Revised Seminary Registration Bill to JUI F

The government of Pakistan has given the new draft of the seminary registration bill to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F). It is the result of efforts by JUI F senator Kamran Murtaza and the government’s legal team to break the impasse on the bill, which was also being sought in talks by the two sides.

There are several options, including holding to the 2019 deal. The government is ready to cooperate if the registration goes through the Ministry of Education for madrassas. Alternatively, it can be under DC offices or the Ministry of Interior, as per the new laws.

Senator Kamran Murtaza would brief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the draft. The latter will consult the party central council and madrassa representatives before responding.

It is an important step towards the fulfillment of JUI-F conditions for passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment bill. One of such conditions was regarding the passage of the Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The concept behind this bill is to have proper legislation about registering Deeni Madaris so that their activities may be strictly regulated as well as monitored.
