Hyundai and Kia Recall 208,000 EVs Over Power Loss Issue

More than 208,000 electric vehicles manufactured by Hyundai and Kia are being recalled due to a defect that could potentially lead to a loss of power and increase the chances of accidents occurring.

A little over 208,000 electric vehicles manufactured by Hyundai and Kia are being recalled due to a defect that could lead to loss of power, enhancing the likelihood of accidents. Over 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis vehicles are, with the exception of the 2022-2024 Ioniq 5, 2023-2025 Ioniq 6, GV60, GV70, and 2023-2024 G80 models, many of which are recalled in this notification. Similarly, around 63000 Kia EV6 model cars manufactured in 2022-2024 are also under recall.

In Canada, the Hyundai recall covers 34,529 vehicles manufactured from March to November this year. Kia, how many vehicles in Canada are connected to this problem has not been said. As stated in the automakers’ filings with the government rather a failed charging control unit’s semiconductor may also result in loss of driving power as the car’s 12 volt battery may not get charged at all. If found there, ATT will change the faulty control units and fuses, if any. Software updates will be given as well.

It is expected that the owners of the cars that were recalled spring of this year for the same defect will have to go back to their dealer. In December and January, owners of the vehicles will be sent notification letters complete with procedures on how to schedule vehicles for fixing. This recall shows that the issues that can compromise safety in electric vehicles must be dealt with effectively so as to avoid accidents to the drivers.
