Imran Khan Forms Negotiation Committee, Warns of Civil Disobedience.

It has been indicated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and controversial figure, Imran Khan, now in Adiala Jail, that a negotiation committee has been formed to initiate talks with the government. Other members of this committee include Asad Qaiser, Omar Ayub, Salman Akram Raja, Ali Amin Gandapur, and Hamid Raza.

Omar Ayub, while at the press conference, said he met with Imran Khan for a long while in jail on December 5, even though he was arrested again after getting bail. During that, Imran Khan directed PTI members to pray and do a Jirga on December 13 in Peshawar to invite all political parties to participate. PTI International Chapters are keen to organize similar events in their respective countries on December 15.

The main agenda of the negotiation committee is to get the release of detained PTI workers. Ayub signaled that if the demands were not met, the party would have to resort to civil disobedience, which would have national and international implications. PTI has also called for a judicial inquiry into the events of May 9 and November 24.

That will make them clear that PTI is unshakeable from constitutional rights, stated former national assembly speaker Asad Qaiser. Criticizing the treatment meted out to arrested PTI workers as being presented in courts as terrorists. Citing that, Qaiser reiterated that PTI’s struggle remains confined to the area of law and the effect of the constitution.

PTI’s Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram argued that the government’s excessive use of oppression cannot prevent people from connecting to Imran Khan. He added that the most likely civil disobedience would be when public dissatisfaction paints a clear picture. Why should they pay taxes to a government that does not vote for them?

On 7th December, prior to the issue of non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and many other top leaders of PTI, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) held a session. The GHQ attack case has 25 accused which includes the well-known faces of PTI, including Ali Amin Gandapur, Shibli Faraz, Shehryar Afridi, Zain Qureshi, Kanwal Shauzab, Tahir Sadiq, and Malik Taimoor Masood. Judge Amjad Ali Shah of ATC Rawalpindi signed the warrants directing the CPO Rawalpindi to arrest and produce these in the court by 10th December.

On December 5, 2024, the indictment of Imran Khan along with 60 other PTI leaders was pronounced in the GHQ attack case. Judge Amjad Ali Shah entered this indictment against Imran Khan and 60 more leaders of the PTI.
