Twenty-two years after being in Pakistan, an Indian lady named Hameeda Bano from Mumbai is back in India. She was tricked by an agent into believing he was taking her to work in Dubai but instead dropped her in Hyderabad, Pakistan, in 2002. Bano was married off to a resident of Karachi after going through much suffering and was later bereaved by the death of her husband because of COVID-19. She now lives along with her stepson.
She first came to the limelight in 2022, when a local YouTuber shot a video showing her life. In the video, she said that she was trapped by an agent and was in Pakistan. It went viral on social media, which finally led to discovering her daughter living in Mumbai.

Just before the year’s end, the government started taking cognizance of the plight of the resident to Indian authorities to ascertain her citizenship. Once it was confirmed that she was indeed an Indian citizen, arrangements were made to repatriate her. On Monday, Hameeda Bano crossed back into India via the Wagah border.
While saying goodbye to Pakistan, Bano put forward her contradictory feelings. At first, she was sad about departing, but it was a source of happiness too because she had reunited with her family after two decades.
