Ishaq Dar Departs for Cairo to Attend 11th D-8 Summit

The Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar has departed for Cairo, Egypt ahead of the 11th D-8 Summit of developing countries scheduled for December 19, 2024.

Before attending the summit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar would on Wednesday participate in the 21st D-8 Council of Ministers meeting as well. Dar is also scheduled to take part in a conference in Baku on confidence-building measures in Asia (CICA), via a video link from Cairo.

The statement added that during his stay in Cairo, Dar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from other countries.

The summit is also known as D-8: Developing 8, and is a global organization for development cooperation among 8 nations, namely, Pakistan, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkiye. The group aims at enhancing cooperation in technology, trade, investment, and cultural aspects.

It was formed in 1997 with specific aim to promote socio-economic development and to improve the life-standard in the member countries through mutual cooperation.

This summit forum provides political, economic, and social issues of interest to the member countries.
