The Islamabad High Court has prohibited the federal government from finalizing appointments for Members of the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) until February 13, 2025. Justice Babar Sattar issued the order concerning a petition challenging the transparency and legality of the recruitment process.
However, the Ministry of Law and Justice can continue with the evaluation process rather than appointments until the resolution of the matter. The petition, filed by Mudassir Malik, highlights the concerns about recruitment, including writing tests conducted on December 8, 2024.

The ATIR is the quasi-judicial forum to appeal against orders passed by Regional Commissioners/Commissioners of Inland Revenue Services (IRS) and a critical node in the effective collection of taxes and dispute resolution.
This shows that the judiciary is committed to ensuring that all public appointments are properly made and aligned with the law.
