The Khunjerab Border the only land corridor between Pakistan and China-has been closed officially for all public traffic, trade, and tourism for the winter season which has severely affected travel and trade. The closure from November 30, 2024, will last until March 30, 2025. Situated at an altitude of 15,500 feet, the Khunjerab Pass receives very heavy snowfall and experiences very extreme conditions during this time, making it very difficult to operate.

It operates seasonally on mutual understanding for trade, tourism, and public traffic from April 1 to November 30 every year. This year, however, it was closed a day earlier due to weekend holidays. The route will again be opened by April 1, 2025, and will restore its vital function for connectivity and commerce between the two countries.
