A group of local government employees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) held a protest outside the K-P Assembly building, demanding the provincial government release municipal funds that have been withheld.
The protest gathered momentum when police resorted to baton charges and used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. According to the workers, the deadline set is January 1 for the government to release the funds that are important for the functioning of local bodies.

This lack of response on the deadline led to agitation by the workers who staged their protest at the K-P Assembly. Banners in hand, chanting slogans against the provincial government, they blocked Khyber Road opposite the assembly building. They voiced their frustration at the failure of the government to meet their demands and provide funds for local governance.
To disperse the agitators, police adopted measures such as baton charges and the firing of tear gas shells. Though initially the protesters scattered, they soon came together again and blocked GT Road while continuing their protest.
