Severe heavy vehiclesban impose into the city for three days, from Friday through Sunday, following Punjab’s government actions toward the resolution of Lahore’s growing problem of smog. The restriction was enforced to cut down the pollution and improve the quality of air.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar confirmed that heavy vehicles, loader trolleys, and other large trucks will not be allowed entry into the city during that period. The rule will also apply to vehicles emitting excessive smoke or without a valid fitness certificate.
To ensure there are no violations of the rule, law enforcement officers will be posted at twelve key entry and exit points of Lahore, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs). Amara Athar stressed that except for this class of vehicles, almost all other vehicles are restricted from entering the city.

The government has made it clear that all measures have been implemented in order to enforce this ban. Athar appealed to the transporters to cooperate with authorities noting that everybody must play a role in reducing pollution and safeguarding public health. “We have to come together to clear the smog and create a better and cleaner environment for the citizens of Lahore,” she said.
In addition, Lahore Traffic Police has launched a campaign against vehicles producing hazardous smoke. Thousands of vehicles have already received fines or impoundments for violating the rules of smog. There are also available in the city 41 anti-smog squads that will conduct inspections for compliance.
Such measures will prove fruitful to improve the areas of pollution and provide a healthy environment for citizens living in Lahore.
