LESCO, an acronym for Lahore Electric Supply Company, is facing a grave crisis. The Advanced Metering Infrastructure smart meter supply has been suspended, and unofficially such solar connections are also on halt.
On November 15, LESCO announced the procedure to initiate and release demand notices for AMI smart meters. However, there are no such notices to this day. Furthermore, the issuance of a No Objection Certificate concerning green meters also ceased to occur since the date mentioned.

Initially, the company was to issue NOCs for green meters but instead declared that as of November 15, bi-directional green meters would not be allowed NOCs. LESCO would thus furnish consumers with bi-directional smart meters.
But the Material Management department has delayed all procurement procedures for which customers are still waiting. Such delays result in failure to acquire smart meters timely and have suspended solar system connections leaving many consumers in the dark about future actions.
This brings a setback for the consumers who are wanting their solar systems connected and doubt the company’s meeting renewable energy goals.
