Human rights activist Dr. Mahrang Baloch and famous singer Hadiqa Kiani marked their presence on the BBC’s 100 Women 2024 List. The BBC’s list pays tribute to inspiring and empowering women around the globe for their resilience and advocacy for various global challenges.
Reasons for Selection of Mahrang Baloch and Hadiqa Kiani
Mahrang Baloch: Dr. Mahrang Baloch has been in the news after the disappearance of her father in 2009 and his death in 2011. Near the end of 2023, she headed a 1,000-mile march to Islamabad with hundreds of women demanding the truth of their loved ones missing from home. She continued her fight for justice even after her arrest. Leading the Baloch Yakjehti Committee now, her efforts in this regard have earned her recognitions like her inclusion in the TIME100 Next 2024 list.

Hadiqa Kiani: Hadiqa Kiani, a pioneer pop singer from South Asia who is also a goodwill ambassador of the UN Development Programme, has been recognized for her philanthropic work. Hadiqa started Vaseela-e-Raah following the 2022 floods for the rehabilitation of victims in Balochistan and South Punjab after the public contributed to building 370 homes and other facilities for displaced families.
