A man from Sheikhupura is in custody for murdering his cousin and then chopping off his thumb so he could withdraw Rs. 1 million from an ATM. The shocking incident has raised questions, once again, regarding the loopholes within the biometric verification systems related to security.
According to police, the suspect went as far as murdering his maternal cousin with the help of accomplices. “There was a case under investigation for the recovery of a body found inside a car”.
As per authorities, the killers cut off the thumb of the victim just after taking his life for accessing his bank account with his ATM card. An amount of Rs. 1 million was withdrawn by the duo, later arresting them.

The suspects were caught red-handed while attempting to dispose of the body in a nearby canal. Police stated that the suspects were intercepted during a routine patrol, and their suspicious behavior led to the discovery of the crime.
The arrested men are in custody and further investigation is in progress to determine the full extent of their involvement. This gory deed has triggered debates about the misuse of biometric authentication and the immediate need for more stringent safeguards.
