Pakistan Nears Completion of Transit Trade Systems at Chaman and Torkham

Pakistan has finished the Integrated Transit Trade Management Systems at Chaman and Torkham, a development of great significance for improving regional connectivity. More than 97 percent of the work on these projects has been finished, which aims at gargantuan additions to the country’s transit trade capacity, as said by the state-owned broadcaster Radio Pakistan.

Upon completion of this project under the National Logistics Corporation, Pakistan will join the elite of much-developed countries provided with modern state-of-the-art border terminals. These terminal borders, holding global standard facilities, will benefit trade among countries in the region such as Pakistan and Afghanistan, Central Asian Countries, and beyond, immensely increasing trade in the region.

These terminals will be equipped with modernized facilities which will lighten the load of expediting trade goods delivery and economic activities among regional countries. They will, once completed, be able to handle 2400 trucks every day, five times more than the current carrying capacity. There will be parking facilities available in the import and export yards of these terminals for 400 trucks and 100 light vehicles.

The terminals will have a state-of-the-art administration center, banks business center, weighing machines, explosives, and drugs detectors, scanners, and biometric data collection systems. Such border terminals will strengthen regional connectivity and turn Pakistan into a hub of regional trade.

Not so long ago, an item was put together for the above-mentioned project, which is now being managed by the Federal Board of Revenue after financial backing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Pakistan has raised regional connectivity with many international countries on forums like SCO and ECO. Islamabad has signed transit agreements with several countries, such as Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

Pakistan promotes the more extended connectivity approach from Central Asia as it has signed several trade arrangements with other countries, including Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, and the nations of the European Union. In the context of CPEC, the two countries are also developing a port complex at Gwadar, thus leading to the provision of port, warehouse, and industrial facilities to foreign countries interlinked with Central Asia, South Asia, and China for trade and business purposes.
