In its latest effort against misuse of authority by government officials, Pakistan Customs has begun its policy restricting the use of smuggled and tempered cars by officers working in government departments. This is one of their constant efforts directed towards accountability while keeping impounded vehicles from being misused among officials.
It is in response to the increasing concern that Customs officials have been making personal use of thousands of impounded vehicles. All NOCs issued for government officials using smuggled vehicles have been annulled.
The authorities have intervened by putting limits on the number of such smuggled and tempered vehicles that would be allowed to be used by Customs offices at the provincial level as part of the policy. The Islamabad Customs Intelligence office now has a cap of a dozen vehicles, while a maximum of 10 is available to offices in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar.

It was a step towards more transparency and accountability in the Customs Department. The tens of thousands of impounded vehicles are now expected to remain free from the misuse that would have resulted from it being used by Customs officials for illegitimate demands.
These measures show that the government is serious about combating corruption and improving governance in its institutions.
